What We Offer
We offer consultancy and project management services to
companies throughout Scotland. These businesses range in size from small to large and cover many
different industry sectors.
PPC Applications
IPPC legislation aims to
“make the polluter pay” and the enforcer, SEPA, have wide ranging
powers which allow them to halt operations, impose fines of up to
£20,000 and in extreme cases, impose a custodial sentence. To gain a
PPC permit – and hence operate legally - a company must make a
comprehensive application detailing all aspects of their operation.
Typically this will be an iterative process taking 6 – 9 months and
using significant personnel time.
At TSI Scotland, we have the benefit of experience, so can reduce the number of man hours required, have
extensive knowledge of SEPA expectations and have a good working relationship with many of their Environmental
Protection Officers. This has made a significant difference to many of the companies with whom we have worked
in terms of successfully achieving a permit.

Colin Porteous,
Director of TSI Scotland, is an energy consultant working with
the Carbon Trust, and accredited to help businesses to cut
carbon, energy and costs. Details of the accreditation scheme,
and the support available to companies wishing to reduce their
carbon emissions, are available on the CT website. The aim of the work is to make savings through energy
reduction and/or alternative supply and the process will begin
with a preliminary audit of existing usage.TSI Scotland will
apply, on behalf of the client, for funding and if successful, will work
with the client company to review operations and make
recommendations which will lead to carbon savings. Although
some changes will require capital investment, many do not and
savings of 30% on energy bills are not uncommon.

Renewable Energy
The main
benefit offered by TSI Scotland is the potential to reduce a
company’s dependence on fossil fuels. Following a review of
current practice, a client company will be given independent
information and advice on alternative energy sources and on
currently available renewable energy technologies.
In addition, TSI Scotland is currently working closely
with an independent renewable fuel developer who will shortly
bring to market a carbon-neutral fuel burner capable of
replacing conventional industrial oil and gas burners.
Plume Dispersion ModellingPlume Dispersion modelling and the
subsequent interpretation of results can be carried out on a
number of different packages such as ADMS 4, depending on
specific client requirement.

EIA, ERA and ISO
14001 When
submitting a planning application for many types of development,
either for new or upgrade, the Local Authority will require that an
EIA (Environmental Impact Assessmenet) is carried out. TSI Scotland
will manage this process on behalf of the client, meeting with the
council and agreeing the scope of the study before project managing
the process, appointing and regulating sub-contractors, review
on-site operations and finally preparing a report which meets the
requirements of the Local Authority.
An ERA (Environmental Risk Assessment) is frequently
conducted as an initial stage in achieving ISO 14000, particularly
where “Corporate and Social Responsibility” is important to an
organisation. TSI Scotland will review the whole site in terns of
power, noise, drainage, waste, utilities and emissions then report
on the findings in accordance with the DEFRA or other prescribed
format.
