The Music of the Church
Arthurlie Church has a long tradition of an adventurous attitude towards music, which has really come into its own recently.
We have two Praise Leaders, Linda Dick and Alan Campbell.
Linda is choir leader and organist, and her Salvation Army roots often show through in her choice of music. Our choir is small but enthusiastic, having several members who also sing in other choirs outwith the church, in Glasgow Phoenix Choir and Barrhead Philharmonic Choir.
Alan, who is a piano tuner by profession, tends towards the more modern church music, which he leads with guitar accompaniment and the occasional support of a praise band.
To assist the congregation in its singing, and to widen the choice of praise available, we use a data projector to display the words of the praise on a screen at the front of the church. This also has the benefit of raising our eyes and therefore our voices as we sing.
From the start of May, the choir will meet at 10.15 on Sunday mornings to learn new worship songs. On alternate Sundays, from around 10.50, there will be praise in the church; the congregation is invited to join in this, or to simply sit and meditate or indeed to chat to friends.
